I am one of the practitioners for the WEA EDS Explorative Research. I have worked in adult education as an ESOL and English practitioner for 20+ years, mainly with asylum seekers and settlers in the UK. I have also delivered family literacy in schools, piloting a family literacy project funded by Hertfordshire LEA. I joined the WEA in 2014 as an ESOL and English Functional Skills practitioner. In 2018, the WEA chose the VLE Canvas to deliver blended and online learning. My previous career as a computer graphics designer led to a request from the WEA to develop the Canvas course materials for the Innovative English Language Skills Pilot funded by the Midlands Engine. Due to the success of this project, I went on to create Canvas ‘blueprints’ for ESOL accredited and non-accredited courses across all learner levels. I continue to create a range of interactive materials on Canvas supporting learners to develop digital and employability skills, improve health and well-being, and learn about life in the UK. These materials are shared with other practitioners in WEA Canvas Commons. I contribute to the WEA Employability CoP and provide support for WEA tutors using Canvas.
