EdTech: Managing online learners and learning activity: learning groups
Technology can help find learning advantage through group working. Groups are formed around identifiable common goals or interests, in the belief that working together is more productive or satisfying than working alone and simulates real working environments.
Aim
The purpose, benefits and value of collaborative learner groups in wholly or predominantly online courses.
Objective
After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Explain the purpose and value of supportive learner groups
- Design activity that requires learners to work collaboratively in sub-groups at an early stage
- Engage learner groups in the management and delivery of successful intervention for academic and pastoral support
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - B4a : Teaching context: fully online - towards a community of learning
- Set up learning activities in digital environments, having foreseen learners' needs for guidance and catering for them.
- Interact with learners in digital environments.
- Digitally monitor learner behaviour during a session and offer guidance when needed.
- Use digital technologies to remotely monitor learner progress and intervene when needed, while allowing for self-regulation.
- Experiment with and develop new forms and formats for offering guidance and support, using digital technologies.
