EdTech: Ensuring personal wellbeing
Wellbeing refers to our sense of self and our ability to live our lives as closely as possible to the way we want to. Digital wellbeing describes the contribution of technology to wellbeing and includes home working and remote learning, but there are potential risks to wellbeing in using technology.
Aim
Ensuring your personal wellbeing for remote working
Objective
After completing the module, you will be able to:
- Ensure your personal wellbeing during remote working
- Develop behaviour and activities to promote the personal wellbeing of learners during remote working
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - G3 : Well-being: practitioner and learner
- Avoid health risks and threats to physical and psychological well-being while using digital technologies.
- Protect from possible dangers in digital environments (e.g. cyberbullying).
- Be aware of digital technologies for social well-being and social inclusion.
- Be aware of the environmental impact of digital technologies and their use.
- Monitor learner behaviour in digital environments in order to safeguard their well-being.
- React immediately and effectively when learners' well-being is threatened in digital environments (e.g. cyberbullying).

Some good tips - particularly introducing homeworking as a digital skill.
There's also scope to look at departmental and institutional policies around email. One of the key stresses of working on line is when you get to the end of the day and then have a day's worth of emails to respond to. Some of this can be managed by building in email time but institutions can also encourage good practice - like not copying everyone into everything or limiting the number of systems staff have to check regularly.
Some helpful information and ideas that can be shared with learners
I was sceptical at first about this module, but does contain some useful tips on having awareness of and creating mental and physical 'spaces' for work.
