EDS: Communicating and Sharing 1
This module looks at how learners can create, edit and access contacts in preparation for sending and receiving online communications using four different methods. It also explores communicating text and including other digital content to individual and multiple recipients, and how to initiate and participate in a call that involves using video and audio conversation.
Aim
To develop your understanding, skills and confidence to teach competencies in Communicating and sharing at Entry Level from the Communicating skills area of the National standards for essential digital skills (2019).
Objective
At the end of the module you will be able to:
- Explain the key knowledge components required to teach Communicating and sharing at Entry Level
- Apply the technical skills identified in the module
- Facilitate effective learning of this area of the standards at Entry Level

Taking note of your feedback
We greatly appreciate the time taken to provide us with feedback on each module. We regularly review all the feedback provided and use it to inform the development of new modules. Subject to funds being available and other constraints, we will amend existing modules where feedback shows this is required.Feedback from other members about this module
Really informative, helped me greatly especially with social media platforms
A useful reminder of some of the different tools we can use to share this with learners
Question regarding deleting an email after sending... poor wording, as you need to delete emails both sent and received as good housekeeping.
E mail slides... not display correctly, on an iPad.
Still dislike white writing on some slides.
Some links need updating on last page.
Nice intro to communications. On the quiz, while the answers match up to the course content, I would argue there are some areas which are a little more nuanced than the module outlines. For instance, theoretically mailing lists may seem infinite, but in all likelihood, emails to massive lists of contacts will be blocked at some point in the process, if not by your mail provider, by your employer. We see lots of attempts to send to mailing lists through a normal email client, which might be better served by a newsletter tool. It would be nice to see a little more mention of those sort of tools in this module, and that "unlimited" may not actually be infinite.
really good bite sized learning and additional information
reluctant to say as I'm sure these modules will get increasingly difficult but......................found this one easy
Informative and a good refresher
You are able to delete a sent email by deleting it from the sent folder
'The best way to...' (Isn't this an opinion rather than a fact? Apparently it's 'send a text' but what if people are in a place where phones cannot be used - e.g. a prison)
'Can an email be deleted after sending?' (Deleted from where? Apparently it's false, but you can delete definitely it from your 'sent folder'
This was very basic information about communication we use all the time, apart from the emergency contact.
Informative
A last minute room change by text is not always possible, don't have a mobile available which is used for contacting students.
A very informative module with very good resources and tips.
Useful info
Pink is terrible colour for the visually impaired.
Very basic information.
Great stuff but as a result of lockdown I have had to get to grips with most of this content!
very useful unit
Lots of good ideas to try with learners e.g. ice, periscope etc
Very useful information for teaching and communicating with students
The question about deleting sent emails is vague. It can be possible to retrieve a sent email, but not always successful.
COUPLE OF THE QUESTIONS ASKED WAS'NT IN THE BODY OF THE COURSE BUT INTERESTING
a good module
Some of the information in this module does not apply to all applications and is, therefore, misleading in some of its true statements
Updated knowledge
A useful module to brush up on video calling, and meetings.
fairly useful
Fine but a few grammatical errors in the questions and answers eg. "Sending a mail" doesn't make sense and also "Which of the following type of message should be treated with extreme caution?" could do with some rewording.
I learned how to set the SOS messaging on my phone, so thanks for that!
Once again though, the scenario material really needs proof-reading!
I feel more comfortable teaching these skills now.
useful to remind myself
useful about accessing and blocking contacts
I especially liked the information on video calls.
This covers a range of skills and awareness. The only problem is that it cannot always be instructions specific as there are so many different devices and it may involve teaching to too many in a class to be effective.
Some of the information seems quite irrelevant to every day use.
This ill benefit my learners.
Some of the questions in the quiz didn't seem to have been covered in the modules e.g how many people you can send an email to? Also it would be nice to have a brief explanation of why a question is correct or incorrect. Very useful overall.
