EdTech: Creating inclusive content: Principles
This module shows some principles of good practice for creating content that meets the needs of learners with a disability or learning disadvantage.
Aim
This module shows you how the principles of good practice for creating content that meets the needs of learners with a disability hold good in general for all learners: good resources are good for all users.
Objective
After completing this module you will be able to:
- List core principles of good practice for creating resources that meet the needs of all users
- Review your existing content in line with the principles
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - F1 : Accessibility
- Provide equitable access to appropriate digital technologies and resources, e.g. ensuring that all learners have access to the digital technologies used.
- Select and use digital strategies which respond to the learner's digital context, e.g. contextual constraints to their technology use (e.g. availability, institutional restrictions - offender learning, work based learning), competences, expectations, attitudes, misconceptions and misuses.
- Use digital technologies and strategies, e.g. assistive technologies, designed for learners' in need of special support (e.g. learners with physical or mental constraints; learners with learning disorders).
- Consider and respond to potential accessibility issues when selecting, modifying or creating digital resources and to provide alternative or compensatory tools or approaches for learners with special needs.
- Use design principles for increasing accessibility for the resources and digital environments used in teaching.
- Continuously monitor and reflect on the suitability of the measures implemented to improve accessibility and adapt strategies accordingly.

Useful. It would've been great if the module had included examples of how to make a given resource more accessible.
Again the reflective activity has made me consider revision techniques which I may be able to use with my learners when they have a reduced timetable to create an online portfolio to support their qualification and learning.
Useful yet again made me reflect on not only what I can improve on but also what I am already instigating. I am going to try and produce voice overs for my google slides to help with online learning delivery.
it does make you think how accessible your tasks are - which is good for everyone.
Interesting. Showing how resources can be adapted ,enhanced to be to be accessible for all
Basic rules for the production of resources, but always worth revisiting as a reminder
I have thoroughly enjoyed my learning. I like the fact that you have a summary sheet to back up the video and several links for research. Thank you.
Useful principles to be aware of when creating resources
I understand the importance of evolving current learning resources so that all learners are catered for. The principles mentioned in this module are helpful and easy enough to implement in my learning material. I can confidently move forward with improving resources that will benefit all learners, regardless of learning need(s).
This was interesting and will help me in my future practice.
Having an open mind and keeping learning fun makes all the difference when dealing with inclusivity
This is the basis of differentiation
This was quite interesting - subtle changes in thought that could make big impacts.
Simple to the point, succinct yet effective
Interesting insight on creating useful content beneficial to all types of learners.
This module has given me more ideas about to ensure that the content I upload to my VLE is accessible to all learners and therefore inclusive. Some of the suggestions I already put into practice; however, I would like to use audio and visual files in my resources as an alternative to/ supplement text.
Excellent - good principles to be embedded throughout all practice.
Made me reflect on resource layout and complexity.
SOME IDEAS TO START INCORPORATING. THANKS
This module I thought was particularly valuable in its lessons and on reflection find that I do tend to use the steps listed.
This is a useful thought process
The module content is clear, concise and relevant. I need to know more about how to apply in practice to adjust my resources for format, content, assessment and complexity.
I found this really interesting in improving resources and being more thoughtful when producing them
Accessibility of key for effective engagement.
Some good ideas
Helpful suggestions for clearer tasks for a wider number of learers.
I like the idea of making an open space to collect all resources
Nice introduction for the 6 steps, some examples of actual teaching practice would have been nice, especially for those starting out in teaching.
This has made me think more about being inclusive and will definitely look at my teaching practice to vary my learners accessibility when using technology.
A great resource in bite size modules to reflect and improve on the way I develop my digital resources
Add on material is good, but again this needs to be in the body of the course not as an optional extra
I learnt a bit on this one, interesting and useful notes on how to do stuff
Back to basics as I come from working with individuals with communication differences and when I started out training in 1994 adapted all my resources for a variety of individual's communication differences.
Very useful to have the modern links below te course and very useful
Easy to follow and short but detailed
Useful module with good links
Gives ideas and helpful suggestions for creating inclusive content.
Lots of good reading to go back into on this module. A subject close to my heart.
Very useful in planning clear lesson objectives and resources
I found this module a little bit more helpful and I did get a better understanding about the principles of good practice.
Just as bad as the other one. Here are some words to allow me to post this feedback
just as bad as the other training. please provide me with better training I don't feel that this is supporting me.
Very informative. This module enables you to reflect on your own teaching.
Good intro.
Very useful to know different methods.
Interesting to learn about the different ways in which materials can be adapted to improve accessibility. I hadn’t before thought of recording audio so that learners who learn best via auditory methods can still make the most of a blended approach.
Basic stuff but well covered
Very informative module which gave some good ideas and further information links for items such as using alternative text.
The resource:
- labelled McNaught does not make it clear that it's about using Xerte. When you first access it if you're not used to deserted dashboard it's not the easiest of resources to use.
- all the publishers Association is a broken link that goes nowhere useful.
It would be helpful, please if module summaries could be labelled with the module names and numbers.
useful and very informative
Some obvious suggestions that can be quickly added but we often forget about, plus again the reference links to additional websites and learning is awesome!
Useful introduction
good links to use
Criteria to assess materials against are key to effective learning delivery
Good work
Quick and informaitonal
very useful
completed
very good.
a good module
A1
.
Showed me how little I know or do to assist with accessibility
I have greatly benefited from this course and hope to put it into practice in my teaching.
Valuable lesson learnt that no one content fits all, we have to be inclusive and diverse.
Well designed module.
Thanks very much
Great thanks
It keeps making sense.
