Give a brief description of your work context and responsibilities, e.g. your teaching background, experience, type of organisation (e.g. FE college, ACL), subject/curriculum you teach/lead, your learners (skills level, any particular inclusion needs, age range of group, size of group)

I lead a team of two tutors in the digital skills curriculum area. I am relatively new to the ACL environment with this being my first year. I have been a software engineering professor for over 10 years, so have been using technology in teaching 18-21 year olds. However, adults have different concerns and motivations, so teaching digital skills for adults is a different ball game.

How did you use the learning from this module in your teaching context?

I have reworked my training materials for our VLE, Teams, using different mediums to make it accessible to our different learners. Usually I would have just used handouts in a Word document. However, the previous exploring modules and this modules have helped me shape my content to different needs of the learners, so have rewritten presentations, created videos using different devices, as well... more

What would you do differently next time?

One of our challenges has been access to devices for the learners. With home schooling and sharing of devices, learners have been sacrificing their own education. So synchronous teaching has been challenging. However, asynchronous teaching through the VLE and out of hours engagements have worked. This we would like to take further by increasing collaboration between learners and tutors so... more
