Give a brief description of your work context and responsibilities, e.g. your teaching background, experience, type of organisation (e.g. FE college, ACL), subject/curriculum you teach/lead, your learners (skills level, any particular inclusion needs, age range of group, size of group)

I teach ESOL to adult learners as part of family learning at a county council. I'd just started teaching in the traditional way, in a library, when lockdown occurred, so now I have trained in delivering lessons via Google classroom. This has actually left me with one learner, who has only a phone, limited English, and limited tech ability.

How did you use the learning from this module in your teaching context?

As my learner has only a phone, her use of Google classroom is limited by the size of her screen. I can't for example, post a PDF or even a single page for her to look at, as the type is too small. So I use MS Paint to cut up the pages into small bite-sized pieces that she can easily see. It's also difficult for her complete her written assignments of any reasonable length online,... more

What worked well?

I liked the accessibility modules, as I too have been teaching in a village hall, with no tech, and I find that teaching my students in a traditional manner works ok, but the students really like an email, summing up the classes and giving useful links.

What would you do differently next time?

Think about possible problems, and solutions, at the start, instead of acting reactively.
