In April 2021 I started working for Step2Skills as an Adult learning teacher - Digital co-ordinator. Within this role I teach community learning in Digital and Employability, courses include Computing for Beginners, Word & Excel, Job search in the digital world and Smartphones and tablets made easy. The demographic and ability levels are vast which I enjoy as this challenges my teaching methods. less

I ensure my learning materials are varied and cover different preferences and methods over the curriculum, however this has made me more aware that I don't have different options or preferences of each one. I ensure my learning materials are varied and cover different preferences and methods over the curriculum, however this has made me more aware that I don't have different options or preferences of each one. I have changed some of my learning resources and activities as a start to see if this was required and beneficial. The result of this was that I didn't need to recap this activity and everyone was able to complete the learning in the style that works for them. I asked the individual learners for feedback on how they felt and the response was they felt more confident by being able to do this on their own and it was good for them to not have to ask, one learner said they find asking for another explanation embarrassing in front of other people. 1 resource I am referring to is a written document and it is written with an inclusive font. To improve this I have sectioned this better and used clearer headings, each section has an image to visually show the content, I added links into the document to take them straight to videos (before these were in an extra resources section), taught them how to change the page colour on Google docs for clearer reading and added an audio if the learner would prefer to listen.
This will be something I will do with all of my resources moving forward. A discussion has occurred regarding changing some of the pre course enrolment activities to make these more inclusive. less
